" Guitar players talk about their desert island amp, this is my design for a desert island amp!
Aimed for guitarist that would look for blues, classic rock and hard rock tones. An amp that can convincingly deliver a variety of drive tones covering different genres with different voicings that are inspired by American and British amplifier legacies and then added in some magic of our own." This amp was the first concept amp developed at Gryphin, The goal was to develop a single channel amp that could replicate the classic British tones of the 70's and 80's, but with added tonal flexibility that would give the user more control and the ability to find "your" sound.
The amp has two modes, a higher gain and lower gain option, the low gain option reduced the sensitivity of the pre-amp allowing a greater range of clean to dirty tones.
Both modes use the same number of gain stages, which gives a wonderful percussive "bounce" feel when playing the amp, that can make other amps seem a bit flat in comparison.
The Talon and the black bird amps have some unique features, the "Bite" control that allows you to adjust the brightness before the treble, Middle and Bass control, much like a variable bright control making the amp easily tuneable with fussy pedals.
The feature that really sets the amp apart it the mini switches that control the high and low mids in the tone stack, allowing you to use the tone controls to set a deep scooped tone with clarity and sparkle to thick mid-range tone with fullness and cut. This again helps with setting the amp up to work well with your pedal board.
